Saturday Sun…A Tribute to Derroll Adams
Saturday Sun are a three piece band from the UK playing acoustic folk and blues music with a hint of country. This show will be a special tribute show to two brilliant, but often forgotten, artist Derroll Adams.
The band will be playing the songs of both with additional spoken word from Arlo Guthrie, Wizz Jones, Happy Traum, Allan Taylor, Ian A Anderson and more…..as well as Derroll himself!
ALAN J COOK will be on pedal steel guitar and acoustic guitar.
Whispering Bob Harris …..”One of the best in the business”.
Chris Hillman (The Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers)…..”I had the honour of working with Alan many times over the years, he is a fine musician and a pleasure to work with”,
JOHNNY FEWINGS and HELEN RICH share the vocals.
Johnny also plays guitar and banjo.
Geoff Muldaur…’Johnny’s soft and easy banjo pickin’ is right up there with the late, great Kate McGarrigle. Calm and steady. Always a joy to play with Mr. Fewings.”
Michele Stodart (The Magic Numbers) .... "Johnny Fewings is an exceptional talent on the banjo. He has a beautiful, gentle, intimate voice. I’ve had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him and I’m excited to see what the future brings for Saturday Sun."
Helen Rich plays bass, takes the lead vocal on some songs and provides gorgeous harmony on others.
Mark Nicholls, Virgin Marketing Director…‘The band was good before but the addition of Helen Rich has put them into another stratosphere’
After a recent concert at the Green Note in Camden Town co-owner Immy Doman commented.."Saturday Sun put on a compelling show, celebrating the music of banjo legend Derrol Adams. They bring the songs to life with sensitivity, skill and reverence, sharing stories and entertaining context along the way. Highly recommended - an excellent show!"
